Chasing Moby

So, most of the world knows that my favorite book of all time is Moby Dick. It's full of passion (while psychotic, it's also inspiring), romance (between friends), and undoubtedly the most riveting adventure in literature.

Okay, so maybe not the most RIVETING. But, all in all, the book has everything I love about a book. Adventure, Science, Romance, Comedy (seriously... Melville's fart jokes are the greatest), Determination. I love it.

So, as most people (who haven't been living under a literary rock for the past 100 years) know, Moby Dick is about a whaling voyage led by Captain Ahab. Your main character however, is not actually Ahab. 90% of the story is through the lens of Ishmael (the dashing young fellow whose prone to spells of melancholy and takes to the sea in times of sadness). Ahab is on the hunt for the Great White Whale who took his leg in an epic encounter.

He's so incredibly passionate about his cause that he's willing to take an entire ship and crew down with him.

I want that passion.

I want that fire.

I have passion for what I do: literature. I have passion for talking about the environment and about environmental issues... but am I really as passionate as he is? Passionate to the point of madness is what I want. Crazy as it sounds... I think that being THAT passionate about something that you're willing to lay down your life for it... hunt it down or die trying... I think there's something admirable in that.

My goal, for the rest of this year... and as I finish out college is to find my Moby Dick (ha...ha..laugh all you want).

In all seriousness... I want to find my white whale.

Always,
